About Glenn
With over 30 years in the business, Owner, Director and Chief Instructor at Skydive Geronimo, Glenn Stutt, has achieved what so many of us can only dream of – turning a burning passion into a successful business.
This is no mean feat. As a 4-time gold winner in the WA Tourism Awards Adventure Tourism Category and the only company that’s licenced for commercial tandem skydives over one of the jewels of the Indian Ocean – Rottnest Island, WA – you can be sure that the journey to get here took grit, determination and a whole lot of hard yakka.
The love for throwing himself out of an aircraft began in Matamata, New Zealand, in 1995. At 19 years old, he embarked on his solo skydiving career, putting in the hours and drive to achieve the coveted Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Instructor and Tandem Skydiving Instructor ratings. He then moved to Taupo, NZ, to join a large skydiving operation. Many, many jumps later, he progressed to become the Ops Manager at Taupo’s Great Lakes Skydiving Centre. Here, with Drop Zone jump numbers often exceeding 400 per day, he’d soon logged over 10,000 leaps.
After achieving the highest skydive instructor rating in New Zealand (equivalent to an Aussie Instructor A rating), he and his wife Amy began to eye the shores and iconic jump locations of Australia. In 2007 they made the move to Perth, where he worked in local drop zones. Opportunity struck in 2010, and the husband-and-wife team jumped at the chance to purchase Southern Skydivers in Busselton, WA.
The next six years – and with true entrepreneurial spirit – they worked tirelessly to grow the business. 2016 saw them rebrand to become Skydive Geronimo and opened the incredible Rottnest Island drop zone. This iconic location soon became their sole focus. Today, the company delivers over 6,000 tandem skydives annually, giving novice and experienced skydivers alike the opportunity to experience freefall and land on the powder-white sands of this paradise island.
Glenn now has more than 20,000 skydives under his belt. He’s also one of the few people in Australia with a Chief Instructor / Instructor A rating, as well as being a jump pilot and jump pilot instructor. It’s safe to say that this is a guy who lives, breathes and dreams the joy of freefall and the privilege of regularly seeing the world below from a unique, bird’s eye perspective.
Glenn is ultimately responsible for every element of the business. He works tirelessly to maintain the highest safety, training and compliance requirements as required by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF) and Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations. But becoming one of the most highly regarded adventure tourism companies in the world of skydiving requires more than just these crucial elements. A typical day might see Glenn working overseeing the management team, mentoring and supervising instructors, carrying out weather assessments, equipment maintenance, business promotion and more.
It will probably come as no surprise that, when he has any spare time, he can usually be found either in the air or tinkering around on the ground preparing to get in the air. He also delivers education sessions to local pilots about skydiving operations in Perth and the surrounding area.
