Skydiving in Winter: 4 Reasons You Should Take the Plunge

By Skydive Geronimo Jul 09, 2022

Wintertime is an awesome time to skydive. You might be surprised to hear this, as the sport has somehow managed to gain a reputation for not taking a leap during the winter months. We’re not pretending that you might need to wear something a little thicker – after all, it can get a bit chilly at 15,000ft.

But oh – the advantages far outweigh having to throw on an extra layer.

The following are four awesome reasons why jumping during winter is an absolute must-do for any adrenaline junkie…

  1. The Air Is Crisp and Clear – And the Views Are Stunning!

Seriously, it has to be seen and experienced to be believed. In WA, we’re fortunate to have a large proportion of beautiful winter days. The air also has less moisture at this time of year, meaning the views go on and on and on… While you might think that the weather can prevent jumping on multiple days, this isn’t the case. Sure, there’s bound to be a few when the weather conditions aren’t favourable. But, for the majority of the time, conditions are perfect. In some ways, it’s even better than more popular times, thanks to less windy conditions and more clear blue skies.

  2. There Are Way Fewer People Around:

The popularity of skydiving means that peak season (AKA spring, summer and autumn) can get a little crowded. In the winter, far less people take a jump, meaning that you won’t have to share airtime with loads of others.

  3. The Prices Are Fab!

Fewer people = lower prices. And who doesn’t love a bargain? We’ve currently got some awesome deals up for grabs, with a healthy 15% off many of our favourite tandem jumps.

  4. Rottnest Is Quiet:

There’s a reason that Rottnest gets busy in the summer. It’s because it’s one of the coolest and most beautiful places on the planet. But visit during the off-season and you might be lucky to get some of the best experiences all to yourself. From the cutest baby quokkas to nesting osprey, it’s a great time to spot wildlife. Plus, there are whales galore as the annual humpback migration is in full swing. Rotto in the winter is simply delightful – and you barely have to share it with anyone…
